Maramoo 2017

UNIQUE EVENT TO RUN, EAT AND DRINK IN A RACE THROUGH MARGARET RIVER WINERIES

Online registrations are now open for Maramoo 2017 – a marathon event set in Margaret River on Saturday 9 September. This family friendly event is based on a 33 year old event in France called Marathon du Medoc that is held on the same day.

The main race of Maramoo is three distance legs taking runners off and on road near Rivendell Winery Estate and Restaurant in Margaret River. Race participants can sample local produce along the way, and marvel at the scenery during their run. After each leg runners run a lap of honour of the cricket pitch where the start/finish line and race village is.

The inaugural Maramoo event was held last year, and this year promises to bigger and better with two new distances – ten km (12 years and over) and two km Kidamoo (6 – 12 years). This is in addition to the marathon distance either as an individual or a team and the half marathon.

The driving force behind Maramoo is Event Director Shelley Hatton. Shelley has experience with large sporting and participation events, having been involved in the Rottnest Channel Swim Association for 14 years holding a number of positions including President and Race Director.

‘I heard about the event in France, and thought that Margaret River is a perfect location to hold a similar event. I was lucky to be supported by some amazing local businesses who shared my passion for the event, as well as some great advice and assistance from WA Marathon Club and other local running organisations’, Shelley said.

‘It is a great family friendly event, and can be a good excuse for a weekend away in the South West combining sport, food and wine’.

All half-marathon and individual and team marathon participants receive an event t- shirt as part of their registration. There is t-shirt design competition for the design featured on the t-shirt. The prize for the winning design includes free registration to the event and a $200 Rivendell Winery and Restaurant voucher.

Early bird specials for registrations and the t-shirt design competition close on 31 May 2017.

There are prizes for line honours in each category and best dressed.

Maramoo is supported by local wineries Rivendell, Cape Grace Wines and Happs. Other sponsors are: Forest Rise Chalets and Lodge, Pullman Resorts, Surf ‘n’ Dirt Adventure Tours, Ramada Resort Dunsborough, The Running Centre, Bay Village Resort and Spa, Juice Print, City of Busselton and Compressport. There will be sponsor stations at the race village.
