The estates vineyards were established in 1987 with the super- premium, dry grown Cabernet Sauvignon vines now close to 30 years old and producing exceptional fruit at less than 4 tonne to the hectare. There are two Vineyards on the estate.

The ‘old-vine’ Cabernet Vineyard is situated in a sheltered valley, high up on the Leeuwin- Naturaliste ridge, protected from the strong winds and capturing the morning sunlight with the northeast exposure allowing early ripening. This, combined with free draining granite and laterite gravel soils creates a perfect microclimate for ripening of premium grapes to their fullest flavour.

The second, on-site vineyard is located in a protected, sun-drenched valley adjacent to the entry to the estate. It was established on rocky ground with granite and gravelly soils – the perfect terroir for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyard is a mixed planting of transplanted Cabernet Sauvignon vines from the old block alongside new Houghton clone plantings.

The Estate’s aim is to be as environmentally friendly as possible and reduce our environmental foot print each year. The winery is powered by solar energy and the entire property is self sufficient with water supply from rainwater tanks and onsite dams.
